      A historic sports season at Coudersport High School is quickly winding down with two teams gunning for the PIAA District 9 title and already clinching berths in the "Sweet 16" round of the state playoffs.

Local trio competes at states
      Three local athletes competed in the PIAA Track and Field Championships last weekend at Shippensburg University. Junior Emily Giannotti of Coudersport finished 15th among 24 finalists in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:57.23. Her time of 11:16.29 a week earlier at Kane won the District 9 championship.

     Coudersport driver Nate DeLong picked up his first victory of the season and the second of his young racing career last weekend at the high banks of Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway. He's one of the top drivers in the Crate Sportsman division at Woodhull and is also running at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, N. Y. Nate's brother, Eric Delong, will also be racing soon at Woodhull. He's currently serving in the U. S Air Force.

Emporium, Austin still unbeaten in baseball
      Emporium and Austin are among four undefeated Alle-Catt Amateur Baseball League teams heading into the season's fourth weekend. A talented Emporium squad (3-0) got an unexpected boost when former professional pitcher Saul Solveson did not leave the team to rejoin the York Revolution, as had been planned.

Chamber golf tourney June 11
      Cameron County Chamber of Commerce has announced plans for its annual Golf Classic, to be held on June 11 at the Emporium Country Club. A fourperson scramble format is set, with competition to tee off at noon. Area businesses have donated prizes and the entry fee covers 18 holes of golf, a card, refreshments, dinner, skill prizes and door prize eligibility.

Coach Harrier steps down
      Cameron County High School baseball coach Dick Harrier confirmed that he is retiring after a 34-year run. The school board will hire a successor in the coming months. Harrier guided the Red Raiders to several successful seasons in this decade, including success in the district and state playoffs. Cameron County went 1-15 in a rebuilding 2009 campaign.

Habitat golf tournament set
      Potter County Habitat for Humanity has also announced that this year's golf tournament is set for Wednesday, June 17, at the Coudersport Golf Club. Volunteers are needed to make it a successful fundraiser. Hole sponsors are being recruited and donations, including gifts to be used as door prizes, are welcome.
