Volunteers still needed for Hobbit, Fairy Festival

Judy Nobles (at left) of The Lookout helps outfit Anna Margaret Binder of Port Allegany to appear as the Queen Fairy at the Woodland Hobbit and Fairy Festival, while the mannequin at left sets an example of hobbit attire. Volunteers are still needed for the event, to be held June 13 from 10 am to 5 pm at Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts & Cultural Arts Center in Keating Summit. The Lookout has materials available for fairy gowns and headpieces, with Nobles available to help lend an artistic flair to the costumes. A "young person's celebration of the arts in nature," the Woodland Hobbit and Fairy Festival in the Pennsylvania Wilds will be held June 13 from 10 am to 5 pm at Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts & Cultural Arts Center in Keating Summit.

All are invited to join the Queen Fairy and King Hobbit in hobbit or fairy attire, and reconnect with nature in the Pennsylvania Wilds. Artistic activities will abound all day - storytelling, interpretive musical events, fairy tea parties, puppet theater productions, and artistic and craft ideas for all ages. Special music will be provided by a bagpiper from the Edinboro Pipe Band.

This year's festival will feature a "Going Green" theme and include information about helping the environment.

Volunteers are still needed to share their time and talents at the festival. Volunteer applications and more information are available by visiting the website, www.woodlandfairyfestival. org. Costuming help is available; volunteers can visit the Woodland Fairy Festival Costuming Shop at The Lookout in Port Allegany to get outfitted for the event and create fairy headpieces. Call 642-7901 to set up an appointment.

Tickets cost $8 at the gate for children; $10 adults. Presale tickets are available at a cost of $6 children, $8 adults, at Copy Katz/Endeavor News in Austin and Emporium, Coudersport Party Supplies, The Lookout and NTCH Resale Shop, both in Port Allegany, and the Country Porch in Smethport. Presale tickets are also available by sending check or money order to WHFF, PO Box 421, Port Allegany, PA 16743. There will be an extra charge for some activities, with a variety of vendors on-site. No on-site parking is available; shuttle service will be available for a small fee.
