Art fest, fireworks this weekend Emporium will be a busy place on Independence Day, with the annual Arts Fest continuing during the day and a fireworks display at night. Cameron County Arts sponsors the festival, which features artists and craftsmen who display, demonstrate and sell their work on Broad Street. Arts Fest resumes at 10 am Saturday. Craftsmen and artisans will display needlework, photography, woodcrafts, folk art, painting, jewelry and beading, drawings, woven items, candles, furniture, dried flowers and more. Emporium Garden Club, Cameron County Quilters and Bucktail Watershed Association will operate booths. Health information and free chair massage will be offered. There will also be "clowning around," sidewalk chalk art, a caricature artist and balloon art. The Community Band will play at 11 am on North Broad Street. At 12:30, Dueling Dulcimers will perform at Parker Jackson Shelter on South Broad Street. There will be more fun and music at the high school football field after the downtown event closes at 4 pm. At dusk, fireworks will be fired off from the high school area and be visible from most points of the community. If it's raining Saturday night, the show will be shifted to Sunday. |
