Dr. Laurore joins Cole Memorial team
      Charles Cole Memorial Hospital has announced the addition of Max Laurore MD, who joins the obstetrics/gynecology practice of Dr. Celso Backes. Dr. Laurore earned a medical degree at the State University of Haiti and completed a residency at Synergy Medical Education Alliance in Saginaw, Mich.

Morris promoted at First Citizens Bank
      First Citizens National Bank recently appointed David G. Morris of Coudersport to the position of vice president and business development officer. Before joining First Citizens, Morris was the chief lending officer for the Bank of Canton. He has spent nearly 30 years as a commercial business development officer, including 13 years with AgChoice Farm Credit in Coudersport.

Kids can give back during 'community service days' next week
      Parents who would like to expose their children to the values and rewards of helping others are encouraged to enroll them in Community Service Day, a project of Potter County Cooperative Extension being held Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14-15, from 9 am to noon each day. It's open to students entering grades three through six.

     Elk Regional Health Center CEO Greg Bauer (right) was guest speaker at last week's Emporium Rotary meeting. He spoke with enthusiasm about changes in health care and the improvements that are possible through new technology. Bauer also thanked Rotarian John Rogers (left) for his service on the hospital's board of directors. In other business, outgoing Club President Sue Bucher expressed appreciation for the support she received during her year at the helm, as she passed the gavel to incoming president Connie Garrigan. The new president pledged to continue to local club's reputation for "getting things done." Mallory Rodich and Grant Vassallo reported on RYLA activities and thanked the club for the experience. Also attending the meeting as guests were Janet Lininger, Carol Frank, David Bucher and Morgan Bucher. Prospective members Kim Whiting and Pastor Phil Sanders also attended. Georgiann Holly reported on the successful health screenings sponsored by Rotary at the firehall. Georgiann Holly and Connie Garrigan will attend training at the Aroma Restaurant on July13 for a new district database/network program. Rotary District Governor Joe White will visit on July 21. He will meet with the board of directors prior to attending the regular club meeting.

AHS announces last period honor roll
      Austin Area School has announced its honor roll for the final marking period of the 2008-09 school year, as follows: Distinguished Honors Grade 12: Whitney Crosby, Hilary Gordnier and Desiree Lamer. Grade 11: Jocelyn Dynda and Emily Wambaugh.

Life skills workshop July 29-30
      Austin Area School will be the site for a life skills workshop geared toward high school students age 14 and older from 10 am to 1:30 pm July 29-30. "Things Everyone Should Know" is open to all students who want to learn more about money management, health, housekeeping, college preparation, job-hunting and other topics.
