The long-awaited high school football season kicks off this weekend with some intriguing matchups. Cameron County was due to take on the Kane Wolves on Friday night in a game that will reveal plenty of information about each team's prospects in the Allegheny Mountain League. More ... Cameron County Storm football teams will host Ridgway on Saturday, with the JV game at 5 pm and the varsity game to follow. An undermanned varsity Storm team is holding its own despite having to elevate a half-dozen younger players to fill the roster. More ... Black Forest Broadcasting, the internet/cable radio station based in Potter County, will be airing Coudersport High School football in cooperation with Zito Media. All home games will be aired live, along with the season opener Saturday (today) at 7 pm at Elk County Catholic and the Sept. 25 Coudersport at Curwensville game. More ... Cameron County is off to a hot start in girls' golf. The Red Raiders carried a 3-0 record into Thursday's Coudersport Invitational. They traveled to Kane and emerged with a 28 1/2 to 26 1/2 victory, behind Brooke Dunsmore (55) and big sister Bre Dunsmore (56). Also scoring for Cameron County were Lindsey Farren (61), Shannon Sullivan (65) and Abby Etchepare (75). More ... A fun and important late-season event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Coudersport Golf Club. It's the annual Coudersport Sports Boosters Open, a major fund-raiser for the organization that supports athletic programs in the school district. More ... Emporium Country Club will hold its annual picnic on Sunday starting at 4 pm. There will be an auction, games and prize drawings. Tickets are $2.00 in advance or $3.00 on the day of the event. The Red Raiders beat the host Hubbers, 32 1/2 to 23 1/2, and topped Otto-Eldred, 32 1/2 to 22 1/2. More ... Coudersport and Bradford battled to a girls' golf tie on rainy afternoon on the Falcons' home course. Keri Hamilton led the Falcons with a round of 46, while Hannah Fink shot a 49.
