Dr. Joseph J. DenRenzis

Dr. Joseph J. DeRenzis, 79, of Coudersport, died Aug. 28, 2009 in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. Born October 20, 1929 in Stroudsburg, he was a son of Joseph and Ruth DeRenzis. On September 23, 1995 in Coudersport, he married Marie E. Petrosewitz, who survives. Dr. DeRenzis was a graduate of Stroudsburg High School, class of 1947, a 1952 graduate of East Stroudsburg State College, Stroudsburg, a graduate of Teachers' College of Columbia University, New York, NY, and a graduate of Temple University in 1970. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II in the 549th Engineer Company. He retired in 1992 as superintendent of Coudersport Area School District and was previously a teacher and principal at various Pennsylvania school districts. He was lovingly known as "Dr. Joe". Surviving besides his wife are a son, Joseph DeRenzis of the State of Washington; two daughters, Theresa M. Walaski of Sterling, VA and Jennifer L. Haskins of Tonawanda, NY; a granddaughter, Alyssa Haskins; a sister, Giovania (Robert) Adelman of Stroudsburg; three brothers, George (Dawn) DeRenzis, Jim (Mary) DeRenzis, and Tom (Mary) DeRenzis, all of Stroudsburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dr. DeRenzis was preceded in death by his stepmother, Gertrude DeRenzis; a brother, Albert DeRenzis; and a sister, Lois Corbey. Funeral services were held at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse. The Rev. Fred Kemp, pastor of Portville Baptist Church, Portville, NY and the Rev. James Campbell, pastor of St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport, officiated. Members of Eulalia Lodge #142 F. & A.M. conducted memorial services on Monday in the funeral home. Members of the Potter County Honor Guard accorded military honors. |
