Coudersport borough discusses paving
Council frustrated with state's summer-long work on Route 6
      While it's been a state project - not under the auspices of Coudersport Borough -- the summer-long paving and sidewalk work along Rt. 6 west has created headaches for members of Coudersport Borough Council. During Wednesday's business meeting, they discussed employing a liaison to oversee future major projects.

Gospel Tabernacle convention this weekend
      Coudersport Gospel Tabernacle is holding its annual convention this weekend. The event traditionally draws dozens of worshippers from several states to join the local congregation for services. Rev. Kent Christmas and Dr. Eldon Wilson are among those who will be preaching. Rev. Christmas is widely known for his gift of prophecy.

Auditor General visiting Emporium
      Auditor General comingState Auditor General Jack Wagner brings his political campaign to Emporium next weekend, after announcing that he is running for governor next year. Wagner will be featured speaker at a dinner of the Cameron County Democratic Committee on Saturday, Sept. 26, starting at 6 pm at the Emporium Moose Club.

'Judy Bolton Days' open to all
      "Phantom Friends" from at least five states will be converging on Potter County next month for the annual Judy Bolton Days observance. They come from all walks of life: a corporate finance officer, a pastor, a schoolteacher, a computer programmer, retirees and many more.

Who was Margaret Sutton
      Margaret Sutton was most famous as the author of the Judy Bolton series of mystery books, consisting of 38 volumes published between 1932 and 1967. She also wrote several books in the Gail Gardner series, The Magic Maker series, as well as other books.

New Boys & Girls group names officers, directors
      Planning for a Boys & Girls Club in Potter County took a giant leap forward on Wednesday, with appointment of officers and a ninemember Board of Directors. While discussion of the concept has been underway for some time, the organization's structure is now firming up, with bylaws drawn up and efforts underway to gain status as a charitable and non-profit organization.

Rotary youth leader shares experience
      Katie Lamb discussed her experiences at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) event at Juniata College with members of the Coudersport Rotary on Monday. Lamb, a senior at Coudersport High School, was winner of the club's Four-Way Test Essay Contest.

CCC authority to speak Sunday
      One of the foremost authorities on the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) will present a free program about that historic organization on Sunday at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in central Potter County. John Eastlake of Williamsport will share stories, photographs and information at 1 pm.

Falling Leaves Festival expanding
      New events have been added to make this year's Potter County Falling Leaves Festival the biggest ever. Nashville recording artist Redheaded Stepchild has been booked for a concert-length set to close out the two-day festival, which will be centered at the courthouse square.

Representing the Denton Hill barracks in checking each seat were Trooper DuWayne Baird, left, and Corporal Sean Batterson.

Coudersport man charged with buying booze for minors
      Several charges are pend- ing against a Coudersport man for allegedly purchasing alcohol for minors. Authorities hope the arrest will send a message to other adults who have been supplying alcoholic beverages to young people in the community.

Two receive state jail terms
      Two criminal defendants received jail terms during sentencing proceedings before Judge John Leete in Potter County Court. Eric Pfenniger, Roulette, was sentenced to 16 months to five years in jail for burglary and receiving stolen property. Charges stemmed from the theft of several thousand dollars worth of animal pelts in Hebron Township.
