Historical Society to host author
      Author James Burke will be guest speaker for the Cameron County Historical Society fall dinner on Wednesday at 6 pm in the Emporium Firehall. Burke has chronicled local history in his book, “Pioneers of Second Fork.” New members are welcome.

      Emporium Rotarians observed ‘Rotary In Action Day’ Saturday by cleaning the roadside along a section of Rt. 46. ‘Night at the races’ slated
      “A Night at the Races” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Emporium, starting at 8 pm. It’s an evening of suspenseful horse racing presented on videotape, with proceeds to benefit the St. Mark’s Day Care Center. Additional information is available from Pete Fragale at 486-2205.

Vocal group performs Sunday
      “Second Chances,” a contemporary Christian vocal ensemble from the Coudersport, will perform on Sunday at the Sartwell Creek Union Church at 7 pm. Song repertoire includes gospel, spiritual, lyrical ballad, and contemporary Christian, in both an accompanied and a cappella setting.

‘When the green has gone’ topic of next Garden Club meeting
      “When the Green Has Gone” will be the theme for the Emporium Garden Club meeting on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7 pm at the Episcopal Parish Hall. Pat Martin will discuss the use of the gathered, dried and/or preserved plant materials from the July workshop, including wreaths and arrangements. For a $5.00 donation, participants can make a grapevine wreath.
