Prospecting for ‘gold’ in California
      Fly fishing has been greatly romanticized in recent years. The sport has been popularized in movies, in magazines, and on television. It is easy to see why fly fishing has become so popular. A skillful fly fisherman is a pleasant sight to watch. The art, skill and grace of casting and delicately placing a small feathered insect imitation on the water’s surface is a thing of beauty.

Swingset ‘Victim’ doing fine
      A young bull elk known locally as “Swinger” appears to be doing fine after being rescued on Aug. 20 from entrapment in the chains of a swing set in Benezette. He is left with only one antler until he grows a new set next spring. Game Commission personnel tranquilized him, sawed off his right antler that had broken at the base during his struggle, and set him free.

Assessing state’s rattlesnake population
      Matt and Paula Wilson, husband and wife team from Smethport, had a busy summer. They performed more than three dozen “den assessments” in northcentral Pennsylvania, as volunteer field specialists for the Fish and Boat Commission.
