A ribbon-cutting reception on Wednesday celebrated the opening of All-Star Chiropractic and Sports Rehabilitation. Located at 303 South Chestnut Street in Emporium, the new business is operated by Dr. Jon A. Carlson.

A 2001 graduate of Cameron County High School, Dr. Carlson said he returned to the area after identifying an unmet need. ALL-STAR CHIRO

“I was an athlete here and I observed what we didn’t have as far as sports-specific training, enhancement, injury prevention and treatment,” he explained. “Sportsrelated injuries are one of the big areas I work on. It’s a little different than the average chiropractor.”

But, he stressed, “We also do the whole regular chiropractic thing.” Regular chiropractic care, rehab, physical medicine and rehab exercises such as stretches are offered. Chiropractic is a drug-free, handson approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

Dr. Carlson offers functional assessments, in which the muscles, bones, joints and nervous system are assessed to develop individual training programs for athletes to correct biomechanics, prevent injuries and improve performance.

He also offers seminars on injury prevention and performance enhancement for sports teams, at which Dr. Carlson as well as sports-specific trainers will teach exercises, strength and conditioning.

“The biggest misconception is that chiropractors address only back and neck pain. We do a lot more – anything with muscles, joints and nerves,” Carlson said.

He earned a degree in biology from Lycoming College in 2005. He then attended Logan College in Chesterfield, Missouri, earning a bachelor’s in life science and in 2009 was awarded a doctor of chiropractic degree. He also completed five national board examinations and was awarded the Health Center Achievement Award, honoring clinical performance and academic excellence.

“I enjoy being back,” he said. “I wanted to bring my knowledge back . . . I thought this would be something of benefit to this area.”
