Two wrestlers from the host team emerged undefeated during Saturday’s highly competitive Coudersport Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
Dirk Cowburn made it official, setting the school’s all-time wins record as he marched through the 160-pound field with ease. His five pins all came in less than 80 seconds.
Cody Bova went 4-0 at 112. Caleb Spring went 3-2 for a third place finish at 152.
Keegan DeLung (145) and Luke Ditzler (285) each had a pair of wins. Also competing for the Falcons were Nick Ayers, Creighton Hayes, Hunter Amidon, Danny Chilson and Devin Van Pelt.
Coudersport placed fifth among the eight teams. Youngsville and Brockway tied for first.
The Falcons’ final home match of the season was a thriller Wednesday night, as Cameron County garnered 18 points by forfeit to pull out a 36-34 win. Coudersport won seven of the 10 matches that were contested.
“Overall, we got a nice effort,” said Coudersport coach Thad Taylor. “Last time we met, four weeks ago, Cameron County smoked us 57-24.”
Cowburn needed just seven seconds to pin his man at 160. Bova got a pin at 112 and Ayers earned a fall in under a minute at 130. Ditzler scored an impressive pin at 215.
“Luke wrestled a superb match,” Taylor observed. “His heart and conditioning made all the difference.”
Spring (152), Frankie DeLung (135) and Keegan DeLung (145) notched decisions. Amidon, Chilson and Hayes also competed.
Coudersport travels to Smethport on Thursday and then participates in the Selinsgrove Tournament next Saturday. Several Falcons will compete in the PIAA District 9 Tournament Feb. 26-27 at Clarion University.
