Emporium Dollar General plans on course

Plans for a new Dollar General store in Emporium are continuing to move forward.

Cameron County Commissioners Lori Reed, Jim Thomas and Phil Jones recently removed another roadblock by approving a subdivision plan submitted by Miller Brothers Construction (MBC). That paves the way for construction to begin later this spring.

Earlier, Cameron County Conservation District approved a sedimentation and erosion control plan for the site.

The former Stoltz Motors headquarters on Sizerville Road was partially demolished last month to make way for a new retail outlet. MBC Development purchased the building and surrounding 3.6-acre parcel on behalf of Dollar General for $96,000 during the county’s tax sale.

All signs point to the Dollar General on East Allegany Avenue closing its doors when its lease expires at the end of 2017.
