Potter County’s Veterans Gravestone Restoration Project – evidently the first such countywide project in the nation – kicked off last weekend with a veterans’ memorial service at the Eulalia Cemetery in Coudersport. Afterwards, about two dozen volunteers fanned out across the cemetery to scrub the grave markers of military veterans spanning the Civil War to Vietnam. It’s a project of the Potter County Veterans Service Committee, with additional cemetery rollouts planned in the coming weeks. Keynote speaker was U.S. Navy veteran Rob Leete. Above Barry Hayman and another volunteer scrub one of the dozens of headstones that were cleaned.
