Death Notices

Janet ‘Jan’ Hampton

Janet L. “Jan” Hampton, 66, a lifelong resident of Emporium, died May 16, 2017, at her home. She was born in St. Marys, a daughter of George and Celine Gerber Singer. In 1970, she married David Hampton. A 1969 graduate of Cameron County High School, she worked as a teacher’s aide and retired last year after serving 18 years as the Cameron County Conservation District manager. She was active with First Baptist Church, Sylvan Heritage Council, and she served on the Cameron County Board of Education. Among survivors are her husband; a daughter, Joy Hampton Coffey; four brothers, Michael, George, Jim and Bob Singer; and a sister, Susie Singer. brother, George (Peach) Singer, Newton, NC; brother, Jim (Debbie) Singer, Emporium. Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home from 10 to 11:30 Saturday, May 20, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in St. Mark Catholic Church.

Jonathan D. Pollock

Jonathan D. Pollock, 31, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Ulysses, died May 12, 2017, in Louisville. Born in Coudersport, he was the son of Dennis and Angela Hand Pollock. A graduate of Northern Potter High School, he was employed by Semper Blue Professionals in Louisville. Among survivors are six children; his parents; a sister and brother; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Evelyne Hand of Louisville; and paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Pollock of Mills. Friends may call at the Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses, from 6-8 pm Sunday, May 21. Services will be held at 11 am Monday in the Ulysses Free Methodist Church.

Robert Seiders

Robert Seiders, 78, of Sinnamahoning died May 14, 2017, at his residence. He was born in Lancaster, a son of Robert and Martha Bixler Seiders. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Among survivors are his wife, Carole Brown Seiders; children Angelia Puccio, Frank Puccio, Lori Heatley, Michelle Cryer and Sharon Fowler; and two sisters, Elaine Givens and Amanda Pennypacker.

James B. Mansfield

James B. Mansfield, 95, of Wellsville, N.Y., died April 29, 2017. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, May 20, in the Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.

George C. Sowers

George C. Sowers, 80, of Emporium, died at UPMC-Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, Thursday (May 11, 2017). He was born October 28, 1936 in Spring Mount a son of the late Warren and Hazel Danekar Sowers. On August 29, 1964, he married Diane Berry, who survives. George worked for the Cameron County School District as a maintenance supervisor for many years. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Joy (Dennis) McKimm, Emporium; Karen (Keith) LaBrozzi, Lufkin, TX; Peggy (Gary) Heckman, Emporium; Andi (Martin Lyon) Sowers, Emporium; sons, Steve (Danielle) Sowers, Howard and George T. “Ted” (Penny) Sowers, Emporium; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, a brother, Robert (Eleanor) Sowers, Zieglersville and a sister, Betty (George) Shaner, Fagleysville.
