A $40,000 donation has pushed the Coudersport Community Swimming Pool renovation over the top if its $250,000 goal, clearing another hurdle to bring the facility back online.

JKLM Energy, the only active shale gas drilling company in Potter County, tapped its coffers to help the community with a project that will benefit area residents for years to come.

With the JKLM gift, Coudersport Borough can now meet its matching share of a $250,000 state grant that has been requested. The goal was reached in a matter of months as dozens of donors came through with gifts as small as a few dollars and in the thousands.

The pool won’t be open this year and the 2018 swim season is also in doubt, but when it does resume operations it will be almost unrecognizable. The modernization plan calls for easier access and a safer, more family-friendly design.

Now that the $250,000 goal has been reached, the borough intends to start building a fund for maintenance and other enhancements.
