Richard W. Chapell

Richard W. “Steve” Chapell, 93, a lifelong resident of Sweden Valley, died July 6, 2017. Born in Blackwell, he was a son of Claytey and Bertha Brown Chapell. In 1947, he married Gloria J. Osborne. Steve attended Coudersport High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and worked for many years at Pittsburgh-Corning Corporation in Port Allegany. Among survivors are three children, Richard E. Chapell, Jean C. Linden, and Roger W. Chapell, all of Sweden Valley. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, July 15, beginning at 3 pm at “The Flat” in Sweden Valley. Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, is handling arrangements.

Debra A. Lentz

Debra A. Lentz, 61, of Roulette, formerly of Coudersport and Austin, died July 8, 2017, at Cole Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Clayton P. and Naomi F. Johnson DeLill. A graduate of Coudersport Area High School, she was employed for several years at Cole Manor in Coudersport. Among survivors are a son, Alan L. Lentz of Roulette; and a brother, Don P. DeLill of Coudersport. Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, is in charge of arrangements.

Linda L. Tarabori

Linda Lou Tarabori, 65, of Galeton, died July 7, 2017, at home. Born in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Alberta Brown and William Bacon. In 1972, she married Ronald Tarabori. Linda and Ronald co-owned and operated a school bus business for more than 30 years, and owned and operated LBT Floral in Galeton for several years. Among survivors are her husband; her mother; a son, Darren Tarabori, Galeton; and a daughter, Holly (Mrs. Scott) Eshelman, Boulder, Colo. Hess Funeral Home, Galeton, is handling arrangements.

Donald R. Haskins

Donald Richard Haskins, 83, of Cordes Junction, Ariz., formerly of Wellsville, N.Y., died June 1, 2017. Born in Genesee, he was the son of George A. and H. IIone Easton Haskins. He attended Genesee High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. In 1952, he married Annie Gertrude Pelham. In 1990, he married Christina Griffin Rombough. In 2004, he married Betty Jean Kemp. Among survivors are a daughter, Debra Ann Gomez of Cordes Junction, Ariz.; a sister, Daisy M. Elliott of Genesee; and two brothers, James A. Haskins of Parker, Fla., and William I. Haskins of Ulysses. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 22, at noon in the Spring Valley (Ariz.) Community Church. Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses, is handling local arrangements.

Orvis F. Gardner

Orvis F. “Skip” Gardner, 69, of Driftwood, died June 30, 2017, at his camp. He was born in Bellefonte, a son of Orvis P. and Dorothy I. Pepperman Gardner. He married Patricia Houtz.

Mr. Gardner graduated from Bellefonte Area High School. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era and was a self-employed contractor. Among survivors are his wife; a daughter, Sheila Gardner of Ocala, Fla.; a son, Michael Gardner of Coudersport; and three siblings, Robert Gardner, Jim Gardner and Barbara Hopkins. Barnett Funeral Home handled arrangement. Burial was in the Mix Run Camp property.

Michael D. Gerhart

Michael D. Gerhart, 64, of Shinglehouse, died July 3, 2017, at the Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, Wash., after a long illness. Born in Sellersville, he was a son of Paul A. and Emma R. Buehrle Gerhart. In 1990, he married Margaret J. Burkhouse. Mike was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Pure Carbon Company in Coudersport as a machinist for 27 years. Among survivors are his wife; two daughters, Karolyn Lee and Patricia R. Gerhart; a son, Michael D. Gerhart Jr.; and 10 siblings, Robert Gerhart, Nancy Trumbauer, Albert “Butch” Gerhart, Alice Sames, Pamela Andrus, Jeff Gerhart, Melody Moses, Deborah Cline, James Gerhart and Tina Rees. Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, is handling arrangements. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service with military honors at 10:30 am Saturday, July 15, in the Sweden Hill Cemetery.

Harold Peters

Harold “Pete” Peters, 89, died July 4, 2017, at Riverview Rehab and Health Center in Edgemere, Md. He was born in Austin, the son of Bruce and Ella Peters, and grew up in Coudersport. He was married for 64 years to Margaret Peters, who predeceased him. Pete was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked for many years as a welder. Among survivors is a son, David Peters of Edgemere.
