Sweden Township Police Department has received a $5,000 grant from Potter County Animal Assistance Project (PCAAP) to help it acquire and train a new police dog. The department’s previous dog died earlier this year. Police dogs are highly trained animals whose duties include searching for drugs and explosives, locating missing people, finding crime scene evidence, and protecting their handlers. Costs to obtain and train a dog can run upwards of $10,000. Donations are being accepted at Sweden Valley Police Dept., K9 Fund, 129 Cherry Springs Road, Coudersport PA 16915.
