CenturyLink seals deal on Level 3

Future of the former Level 3 Communications workforce and facilities is uncertain in the wake of news that CenturyLink has completed its acquisition.

A CenturyLink spokesman said there will be little immediate impact and the company’s focus in Coudersport is on the transition process.

Industry analysts say the combined company will not only have a lengthy integration process, but it will also have to ramp up its strategic product offerings while being heavily indebted. Of continuing concern to the Coudersport workforce are potential job cuts during the integration because of overlapping sales and service forces, redundant technology, changing incentives, and new management.

CenturyLink paid $19.4 billion – not including debt – in the deal. In a brief news release announcing the deal’s completion, CenturyLink CEO Glen F. Post II said, “We are now poised to offer an expanded, robust portfolio of communications solutions over a secure and reliable fiber-rich network, focused on our customers’ networking and information technology service needs. Our customers will benefit from our expanded, innovative network solutions, our complementary managed services, and our highly talented workforce.”

CenturyLink is headquartered in Monroe, La., with a key operational presence in Colorado and the Denver metropolitan area.
