Death Notices

Lorraine M. Baka

Lorraine M. Baka, 70, of Emporium, died May 3, 2018, in her home. Born Aug. 26, 1947, in St. Marys, she was the daugh­ter of Herman and Margaret Cessna Johnson. In 1972, she mar­ried Boyd Baka, who died in 1993. A 1965 graduate of Cam­eron County High School, Lorraine was employed by the Cabin Kitchen Restaurant while she was still in school. From 1971 until 2007 she was resident of Austin, where she was employed by Emporium Specialties from 1971 until 1987. She had also been employed by Schumacher’s, Galeotti’s Restaurant, and Cock­eyed Cricket in Austin. She later returned to Emporium where she was employed by JSH Enterprises. Among survivors are two sons, Michael L. Bauer of Emporium and Roger A. Bauer of Coudersport; and a brother, Leslie Johnson of Mifflinburg. Cop­persmith Condon Funeral Home handled arrangements. Burial was in Oakmont Cemetery, Ridgway.

James P. Verbjar

James Peter Verbjar, 72, formerly of Galeton, died April 24, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y. Born in Bal­timore, Md., he was a son of Andrew and Elsa (Abrahamson) Verbjar. Jim was a 1965 graduate of Galeton Area School and a United States Army veteran. In 1981, he married Patricia Ste­vens, who survives. Jim and his wife owned and operated the Black Forest Trading Post and Deer Park in Potter County and the Christmas Homestead in Gaines. Among survivors are his wife; a son, William Verbjar, Dover; a daughter, Holli Fisher, Pittsburgh; and three siblings, Paul Verbjar of Daytona Beach, Fla., Ellen Colegrove of Greeley, Colo., and Nancy Thayer, Spencerport, N.Y. Hess Funeral Home, Galeton, handled ar­rangements.

Virginia ‘Ginger’ Salter

A graveside memorial service will be held for Virginia “Gin­ger” Salter of St. Marys at 9:30 am Saturday, May 26, at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. She died on Dec. 22, 2017, at UPMC Passa­vant at the age of 71. She was a daughter of Alson and Maxine Devlin Johnson. In 2002, she married Gary L. Salter, who died in 2014. Among survivors are a son, David Sizer, Prescott, Ariz.; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; five siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews, including a niece, Shelia (Mrs. Rich) Guisto of Emporium, who helped care for her. Lynch- Green Funeral Home, St. Marys, is handling arrangements.

Thomas R. Schultz

A memorial service for Thomas R. Schultz, 76, of Ulysses, who died on Feb. 7, 2018, will be held at 2 pm Saturday, May 26, in the social room of the Tri-Town Firehall. He was the son of Michael J. and Josephine Bullers Schultz. Tom was an elementa­ry school teacher at the Northern Potter and Galeton Area school districts. Among survivors are three siblings, Michael J. Schultz, Richard Schultz and Carol Doyle.

Audrey L. Kio

Audrey L. Kio, 85, of Ulysses, died May 8, 2018 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y. Born in Loucks Mills, she was the daughter of Hugh and Neva Thompson Flynn. In 1953, she married Donald F. Kio, who died in 2007. Audrey owned and operated restaurants in Ulysses and Genesee. She founded and operated Circle K Speedway in Whitesville, N.Y. Among survivors are five children, Michael Kio, Darrwin “Duke” Kio, Thomas Kio, Steve Kio and Donna Houghtaling. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, May 12, in the Ulysses United Methodist Church. Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses, is in charge of arrangements.

Reba M. Dickerson

Reba M. Dickerson, 81, of Shinglehouse, died May 7, 2018, in UPMC Cole. Born in Wilmington, Del., she was a daughter of Lewis and Vesta Webster Clark. In 1952, she married Mark A. Dickerson, who died 2013. Reba was employed at Norton’s Building Supply in Shinglehouse for 23 years. Among survivors are three daughters, Linda Pierce of Shinglehouse, Valerie Cope of Port Allegany, and Lori Louser of Shinglehouse. Burial was in East Sharon Cemetery. Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shin­glehouse, handled arrangements.
