Weekend in the Wilds continues

Friendly merchants are outside with their wares during Weekend in the Wilds. Good Things Growing sets up a produce stand in front of the Aroma Café every Saturday from 9 to 1. Owners Josh Zucal (shown) and Alex Reed are known locally as the “gurus of greens,” and are dedicated to expanding their selection of locally produced food and supporting others who want to give it a try. “We’ve had a great community response,” Zucal reports. “Seeing fresh local produce for sale draws people in.” Ally Gribble photo Friendly merchants are outside with their wares during Weekend in the Wilds. Activities dawn with the popular Big Foot Hunt.

Registered hunters who find a wooden big foot replica hidden across Cameron County will bring their quarry to downtown Emporium to claim their prizes.

Attractions in town include an artisan tent, food vendors, and children’s activities, including an air rifle shoot and edible art.

A garage sale benefitting the Cameron County SPCA is being held at the firehall.

Also on Saturday, a street dance will be held from 3 to 6 pm and a plastic duck race takes place at 3 pm on North Broad Street. Ducks can be purchased at the Artisan Center.

Sizerville State Park got in on the act this year with a stargazing demonstration by astronomer Stash Nawrocki, starting at 9 pm Friday.

Rounding out Weekend in the Wilds is the popular fireworks show to be fired from the high school football field at dusk, where people can gather for a social time and an excellent viewing perspective.
