Death Notices

Beverly J. Snyder

Beverly J. Snyder, 85, of Uniondale, formerly of Couders­port, died June 27, 2018, at Forest City Nursing Rehab Center. She was the widow of Thomas Pekarski, who died in 1979; and Donald Snyder, who died in 1995. Born in Gold, Bev was the daughter of Charles and Maude St. John Knickerbocker. She was a 1950 graduate of Coudersport Area High School and was a lifelong member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church. Bev worked for many years at Adelphia Communications Corp. She also worked alongside her first husband as owners and operators of the Hotel Crittenden. Among survivors are a son, Tom Pekarski and his wife Debbie of Uniondale; sisters Mildred Filo of Pittsburgh and Kate Pitz of Virginia; two grandsons, and three great-grandchil­dren. Interment was in St. Eulalia Cemetery.

Ruth A. Godra

Ruth A. Godra, 78, of Wellsboro, formerly of Oleana, died July 1, 2018, in Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. Born in Parkesburg, she was the daughter of George and Gertrude Esh Hall. In 1959, she married Martin W. Godra. She worked as a private duty nurse for several years. She and Marty owned and operated a hunting lodge in Maine for four years. They then owned and operated the Oleana Country Store for 16 years. She was active with the Galeton First Baptist Church. Among survivors are her husband, three sons, two brothers and a sister. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Sat­urday, July 14, at the Galeton First Baptist Church.

Karen M. Labant

Karen Marie Labant, 80, of Cross Fork, died June 29, 2018, at UPMC Cole. She was born in Corning N.Y., and was a 1955 gradu­ate of Wellsboro-Charleston Joint High School. Among survivors are three sons, Jeffrey Labant, Scott Labant and Travis Labant, all of Cross Fork; one daughter, Suzanne (Mrs. Eric) Fritzinger of Lock Haven; two brothers, Morris Mead and Jess Mead; and two sisters, Lena Empson and Barb Dieter.

S. Patrick Kostur

Stephen Patrick “Pat” Kostur, 68, of, Port Allegany, died June 27, 2018, in Sweden Valley Manor. He was born in St. Marys, a son of Stephen Joseph and Jean Allice Powell Kostur. Pat was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. His was a familiar voice as a radio announcer on WLEM in Emporium and WHKS in Port Allegany. Among survivors are a daughter, Jean Allice Kostur; and a sister, Sherry Salter. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany. Har­tle Tarbox Funeral Home handled arrangements.

John D. Carpenter

John D. Carpenter, 70, of Shinglehouse, died June 27, 2018, af­ter a short illness. Born in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Earl D. and Dorotha Oles Carpenter. John was a 1965 graduate of Oswayo Valley High School. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. John was employed at Cooper Power Systems in Olean. He was a member of Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530 and the Potter County Honor Guard. Among survivors are his companion, Royee K. Niles; three children, Tricia J. Anastasia, Cari L. Even and Cory D. Carpenter; and six siblings, Nancy Nolan, Patti Harder, DeBer­nie Carpenter, Donald Carpenter, Hugh Carpenter and Bradley Car­penter. Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, handled ar­rangements. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
