‘Christmas in Wilds’ next weekend

Christmas in the Wilds is set to usher in the holiday season in Cameron County.

It kicks off with a “holiday home tour” in downtown Emporium on Friday, Dec. 7, at 6 pm. Decorations, door prizes and Christmas music await visitors to five participating homes and businesses. A reception will be held at the Hygrade Inn.

On Saturday, Breakfast with Santa returns from 9 to 11 at the Emporium Firehall. Two of Santa Claus’s reindeer with make a stop in town that morning. Vendors will set up on Fourth Street and in the Senior Center on Maple Street from 9 to 2.

Highlight of Saturday’s agenda is a parade that steps off at noon. It will be led by a police escort and the Cameron County High School Marching Band.

Businesses are encouraged to construct a float or walk the one-mile route handing out candy or coupons to those watching. Emporium Shurfine, Student Transportation America (STA), emergency services and St. Mark Catholic Church are among registrants so far.

Other families, churches, or organizations can contact the Chamber of Commerce for more information.

A Christmas home decorating contest is also planned. On Dec. 13, a free bus tour of a dozen decorated homes will embark from the Artisan Center at 6 pm.
